Our Mission
Soul of Science is a nonprofit organization founded on the basis of providing minority students access to education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The goal of Soul of Science is to create culturally inclusive tools and strategies that augment the school district’s current curriculum and in turn increase overall participation in STEM in historically underrepresented populations.
Who Are We?
The Soul of Science Initiative was founded by Edgar Massingale. In 2000, while working as an Engineering Program Manager, Edgar recognized an unmet need in terms of minority education and participation in STEM. As a result of his realization, Edgar would later leave his career as an Engineer/Project Manager to gain greater knowledge on the challenges BIPOC students face in today’s classroom.
In 2020, Edgar founded Soul of Science (SoS) with the goal to create culturally inclusive tools and strategies to augment the school district’s current curriculum and increase overall minority participation in STEM. Currently, we strive to design lessons that increase student engagement by being culturally inclusive, asynchronous learning, applying trauma-informed pedagogy, and structured upon researched-based learning strategies.
